Top ten things you can do to survive

     Cruise ship disaster

                        Cruise ship disaster

Costa Concordia Disaster Coverage Here

1.  The safest cabins on a cruise ship are mid to upper cabins, facing OUTWARD, in the ship’s aft (rear) section.

2. ATTEND the ships evacuation drill and pay attention. Informed passengers are the ones that have the best chance of SURVIVAL.

3. Study where the closest fire doors and life boats are, THEN find the SECOND closest as your backup plan.  Also be sure and study the evacuation procedure list that cruise ships are required by law to display.

4. Realize that during an emergency on the ship the satellite communication used by passengers, is usually switched OFF and secured for emergency purposes only.

5. Ground Rules:  The cause should NOT be addressed.  The situation has happened, it is now time to DEAL with it.

6.  SMOKE INHALATION can be a major catastrophe, as in a home fire, smoke can kill you before the fire does. Be sure you address this issue beforehand.

7.  HYPOTHERMIA is also a concern. This should also be addressed beforehand.

8. During a disaster 70% of the crowd will panic, 15% will behave irrationally, and 15% will make calculated, rational decisions. Make sure YOU are in the last group.

9. CONTROL your breathing. During a disaster your frontal cortex can only contain so much information, by practicing mindful breathing you can force fear from your mind.

10. As in any emergency, take care of YOURSELF first, remember, you can not help anyone else if you are in danger.

Top ten things you can do to survive

                              Bear or Cougar Attack

1.    MAKE your presence known.  Make LOTS of noise.

2.    Carry a good sized “WALKING STICK” for defense.

3.    Try and keep the WIND at your back.

4.    If you do encounter a cougar or bear, FREEZE!

5.    Do NOT make eye contact and never turn your back.

6.    Face the animal and speak loudly in a CONFIDENT voice.

7.    NEVER appear submissive, put your hands up to appear

       large and speak loudly.

8.    Slowly BACK away.

9.     If a COUGAR attacks, fight back.  If a BEAR attacks,

do the OPPOSITE and play dead.

10.   Do NOT climb a tree,  Black Bears and Cougars are

        EXCELLENT climbers!
